Gyfter – Summer Updates

For the last several weeks, the team here at Gyfter has been hard at work on the first of 2 major upgrades the site is going through – internally, we’ve been calling it “Phase 1” and “Phase 2”. In this post, we’ll talk some more about Phase 1 – what it means for you, our beloved users, and what happened behind the scenes – as well as share some of our work on Phase 2.

Phase 1:

Phase 1 was all about cleaning up the core gifting flow – making it easier for you to quickly save a gift idea for someone, or quickly add a new person to gift to.

The biggest effect that you will see from this: A much closer focus on who you are gifting, and what you are getting them. Getting the gift at the Right Time is still important – for everyone in your Gyfter, you can easily set your important dates from their “Right Person” screen. It also means that you don’t need to always setup a date, and can be more nuanced in your saving.

We’re excited to launch Phase 1! It’s currently live on alpha.gyfter.com – try it out, and let us know what you think!

Phase 2:

Coming hot on the heels of Phase 1 is Phase 2, our own summer sequel! This release is entirely focused around making it easier to Add a Gift – something we see as core to the Gifting experience. When we’re out and about, the thing that gets us jazzed is having that perfect gift idea for someone – and Phase 2 of Gyfter makes that a fun and simple flow.

Once Phase 2 launches, simply go to Gyfter, and hit the new “Add a Gift” button – this will let you save that great idea you just walked past while window-shopping, without needing to stop and fill out the who and the when. Simply add that info in later (if you want), and Gyfter will help make sure you get that gift for the special someone you had in mind.

Phase 2 will also include an updated tutorial, some tweaks to the overall look-and-feel of the site, and some under-the-hood upgrades to help us continue to add features and functionality.

Phase 2 will launch in the next few weeks! Pay attention to this site, or @gyfter_io on Twitter, to follow along as we continue to build out Phase 2, and the rest of the Gyfter vision.

Summer Gift Ideas

Here at Gyfter HQ, we’re constantly coming across gift ideas. Here, we have collected our favorite gifts to give this summer. Add these to your Gyfter, and be the life of any party – Gyfter works great for Hostess gifts as well!

Come back often! We will be updating this list regularly with our finds.

Outdoor Drink Holders: $20
These drink holders mean you don’t need to drag tables all over your yard. Stick them near your lawn games or firepit, and end knocked-over-bottle syndrome.

Inflatable Drink Holders – Swan: $20
Sure, the drink holders above work great on land, but what if you’re hosting or attending a pool party? These fun swans are the perfect way for you to sip while you float and soak in the sun.

“POOL” Shatterproof Cups: $3/ea
This first update of the Summer Gift Guide could have been called the “Beverage Logistics” update. These cups are whimsical, sturdy, and are perfect for stocking your pool with!

Insulated Water Bottle: $25+
Everyone should be drinking more water. Especially now, when it’s hotter out, and we’re all outside sweating more. An insulated water bottle will keep your water ice-cold for a whole day – plus, it’s the type of gift that the recipient will be thankful for often.

A New Fragrance: $Varies – Men and Women options
Summer is the perfect time to switch up a scent. It’s a time for brighter scent – now is the chance to set a new signature that’ll work from the beach to your office

Electric Wine Opener: $23
These may look like one of those classic “Unitaskers“, but believe us – they are one of the most used gadgets in several of our kitchens. No longer struggle getting the corkscrew started, or spraying wine everywhere when you pull the cork out.

Whats Next for Gyfter

Our current vision for Gyfter.io is much bigger than what you see today. We wanted to outline where we are headed, both so you know when you can expect your most-wanted features, as well as so you can keep us accountable to what we’re building.

There are a few main items we are working on in the current phase:

  • Notifications: Letting you know when you need to do something, before it’s too late. This could be buying a gift, coming up with an idea, or sending it out. This will be one of the first items out of the gate.
  • Improvements to Collection: Right now, its a bit tricky to quickly save a new person, gift idea, or event. Shortly after Notifications, we’ll be launching the ability to easily and quickly save gift ideas (from anywhere!) into Gyfter, and then attach it to the Right Person.

We also want to know: What would you want added next? What would help make your gifting life easier? We’ve created a survey for you – embedded below – to share your thoughts with us directly. Or, feel free to reach out to ideas (at) gyfter.io if you want to start a dialogue.

Why Gifting can be Hard

Time for real talk. Gifting can be really hard for a huge number of people. Whether it is not having ideas, not remembering the date, or being bad at wrapping, there is often a major roadblock to getting it done.

Gyfter is here to help. We want to hear from you – where do you run into the wall? As we continue to grow and add features, we want to make sure that we are tackling your hardest gifting problems.

Father’s Day Gift Guides

Father’s day is fast approaching! With just 11 days left, it can be tough to find an idea, order it, and get it wrapped. We know you love your dad, and want to show him with more than a tie and a gift card.

First things first: Head over to Gyfter , sign up if you haven’t, and add your Dad and Father’s Day as the Right Person and the Right Time.

Then, check out some of our favorite Father’s Day guides – once you find something you like, add it to Gyfter, and make your purchase!

Gear Patrol’s Ultimate Father’s Day Gift Guide is our favorite roundup this year. With great categories, inspiring ideas, and something for every price point, you will be able to find the perfect gift here. If you prefer to give clothes, they also have outfit ideas !

Why Gyfter?

I’ve always sucked at gifting. I’ve never been able to successfully go an entire year without forgetting someone’s big day, or bailing myself out by getting my wife to do it, or trying to find a clever reason why I’m 3 weeks late sending my Mom a Christmas gift. I’ve always hated this aspect about me – I try to be a kind, caring person, but it is REALLY HARD to come off that way the 10th time you’ve shown up with an Applebees’ Gift Card (that the receipt says was purchased 15 minutes ago).

All my adult life, I’ve wished there was a good solution to this. Something designed to help me:
1) Know who I want to give gifts to
2) Manage the important days in our relationship
3) Help me remember the idea’s I’ve had for them, and what they told me they wanted, for various gifts.

This has gone on for years. Every 6 months or so, I would do some searches, trying to find something that could fill this hole. I was considering a Virtual Assistant, who would have this as their duties. I tried Todo managers, Calendars, purpose built apps, and paper-and-pen.

Nothing worked.

It dawned on me that those solutions were all missing the point. At it’s core, gifting is a fairly simple idea – you have someone you want to give a gift to, a day you want to give them the gift for, and a gift you want to get them. That’s it. You want to give the Right Person, the Right Gift, at the Right Time.

Enter Gyfter. The single best way to give the Right Person, the Right Gift, at the Right Time. It will help manage the gifting process for you, reminding you when you need to come up with an idea, that your mother really wanted the new Bon Jovi Live DVD, and that you need to order this week to make sure it is here in time for the 4th of July BBQ you are all going to. Best of all – it’s free, forever.

I’m luckily enough to work at a company that regularly spends time building and launching products that we wish existed. After sharing my idea with them, we discovered that I certainly wasn’t the only one with this issue.

We launch into Alpha in a few short weeks – sign up today to be a part of it, and never suck at gifting again!

Buying Stuff is Easy. Gifting is Hard.

“O all who give and receive gifts, such as they are wisest. Everywhere they are wisest. They are the magi.”
O. Henry, The Gift of the Magi

Dear Loved One,

I’m sorry. I’m sorry for every time my gift was strictly worse than handing you a partially torn $20 bill that was crumpled up in my back pocket.

Buying stuff is so easy.  I can go from forgetting you exist to having PrimeNow drop a *insert-lame-gift-here* off at your doorstep in 2 hours.  Everyone knows this.  It took me no thought, effort and communicated nothing special.

There was a moment, 2 months ago, when compassion and clarity struck and I thought of the PERFECT gift for you.  I smelled nachos and quickly lost my epiphany.  I still can’t remember that idea, but I PROMISE it was there.

You are my *right person*.   I vow to use Gyfter going forward to demonstrate my care by giving you the *right gift* at the *right time*.

They won’t let me mess up.
